English soccer giants Arsenal have extended their front-of-shirt sponsorship agreement with Emirates, with the new deal to run until at least 2028.

The Gunners’ long-standing relationship with the UAE-based airline carrier began in 2006, with the partnership to now run for a minimum of 22 years. The deal sees Emirates increase its payments to the club by 25 per cent, as the previous agreement was reportedly worth UK£40 million (US$51.1 million) per season.

“We are incredibly proud to make history by extending our partnership with Emirates until 2028,” said Juliet Slot, Arsenal’s chief commercial officer.

“The longevity of our special relationship is a sign of our enduring shared values, our ambition to bring our global communities together, and our commitment to building on the numerous achievements that have marked our 17-year journey to date. As we take our partnership to a minimum of 22 years together, we’re excited to move forward and we’re focused on celebrating more incredible moments with our supporters around the world.”

With Emirates tied down to long-term agreements for three of Arsenal’s key inventory items – stadium naming rights, playing kit and training kit – the next major deal to hit the market will be the sleeve sponsor slot. The UK£10 million (US$12.7 million) a year agreement with the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) expires in 2025.
